Our approach to worship at Grace Baptist Church

OUR APPROACH TO WORSHIP

The worship of God is the daily duty of every believer in every aspect of life. Yet in many Christian circles the word 'worship' has come to refer more specifically to that portion of a meeting or service of the church when the congregation sings praises to God.

At the Worship Service of Grace Baptist Church we believe that every part of the service is an act of worship and that every believer should participate, whether in the reading of scripture, the singing of praise, the offering of prayer, the giving of tithes (financial gifts) or the preaching of the word. This is not to say that every believer will participate in exactly the same way (e.g. one will read the scriptures while the others listen).

We also view the service as a progression, where the hymns, readings, prayers and the sermon draw us God-ward. The preaching of the Word of God is the 'pinnacle' of worship, as we humbly sit and listen to what God has to say to us through the preacher.

Here are the books we use in our sung worship:

Grace Praise is our own compilation of Psalms, hymns and songs. The majority of the contents might be described as 'traditional hymns'. All have been chosen for their biblical accuracy.

The work involved in producing a music edition of a hymnbook is enormous and we have chosen not to compile our own. Instead we have produced this list of the tunes we use for the Psalms, hymns and songs in Grace Praise. Most of these tunes, or others in the same metre, may be found in other hymnals.

While we value the depth and beauty of the old hymns which have stood the test of time, we also appreciate the work of contemporary songwriters. We are gradually extending our repertoire with this growing collection of biblically faithful songs.
